Who We Are
As a non-public school, UHS Keystone School - Highlander provides education programs for both regular and special education needs. UHS Keystone School - Highlander is certified by the state of California to serve all areas of special education. The school builds a strong educational foundation for each student, focusing on self-control and positive decision-making in order to return the student to a lesser restrictive learning environment. A Positive Behavior Support Plan is developed for each student and reviewed on a regular basis. Classrooms have a maximum 1:15 teacher-student ratio, with additional help provided by educational assistants and counselors from the facility’s residential program. Each student’s IEP serves as an “Instructional Map,” with a variety of instructional strategies and approaches used to facilitate mastery level learning. All IEP goals, objectives and benchmarks reflect California State Content Standards and the local school district’s course of study. Helping troubled and disadvantaged children and adolescents is our only focus at UHS Keystone School - Highlander. We are committed to admitting and helping every child, even the ones that nobody else will take, whatever the challenges a child is seeking to overcome. Finding hope for children considered hopeless by others is something we do every day. Because at UHS Keystone School - Highlander, kids always come first, and we see hope in every child.
