
Who We Are
UHS Keystone School - Grand Terrace provides special education services for students in grades K-12. Students are referred to our program through local school districts and SELPA’s (Special Education Local Plan Areas). The majority of the students who are enrolled at UHS Keystone School - Grand Terrace have been identified as having emotional disturbances, learning disabilities or other identified needs as defined by the educational code. At UHS Keystone School - Grand Terrace we pride ourselves on our ability to provide a full range of services to a wide variety of student’s needs. Our curriculum is aligned to our local LEA (Local Educational Agency), Colton Unified School District. Students are instructed following California state standards and using differentiated instruction to insure mastery of goals and benchmarks. We have an enrollment capacity of up to 120 students.
We provide a comprehensive behavior management program which follows a clearly defined point and level incentive based system. The program emphasizes the acquisition pro-social behaviors which support positive and appropriate classroom behavior and productive peer/adult relationships. All services and interventions are determined and defined through the IEP process and outline in the goals and benchmarks. Our teachers use a variety of teaching strategies to support the various learning modalities and provide differentiated instruction in all academic areas. Our therapists provide counseling and support in social skills development, mental health and behavioral health needs. Our program provides credit based course work needed to earn a high school diploma or a certificate of completion. For students who need a life skills approach due to developmental delays, our program offers courses needed to support functional skill development and transition to adult programs.
We provided curb to curb transportation to and from school each and every school day. All Educational Assistance have their Class B license and are assigned as the van drivers for the various van routes. All vans are equipped with GPS to insure the safety and welfare of both students and staff. Low student to staff ratio maximizes individualized attention and support. All classrooms are staffed with a teacher and an educational assistance to facilitate student learning. Our campus offers a High School campus that is separate from the Elementary and Middle School program. We offer the following special features at out facility: activity, multipurpose, weight, art rooms as well as a student store. Students participate in intramural sports with other UHS Keystone School campuses as well as a variety of other off campus outings.

Admission Criteria
• An IEP identifying instructional setting as “Non Public School”
• Educational needs requiring support in one or all of the following areas: educational, behavioral, emotional and developmental domains
• Male or female students ages 5 to 22
• Written authorization from referring district or SELPA
Assessment
As part of the UHS Keystone Education program teachers do quarterly academic assessments on all students. The following areas are assessed and evaluated for growth: reading fluency, reading comprehension, math computation, and writing. All classrooms are formally and informally observed by the Educational Coordinator monthly and rated on 13 to 15 areas ranging from classroom management, curriculum/instruction, state standards and use of technology. This information is then analyzed and used to develop staff training. All state mandated assessments are administered on campus in coordination with referring district. All identify accommodation and modifications are implemented to support the testing process and to ensure maximized student performance.
Curriculum
In accordance with the Stienberg Bill, AB1858, UHS Keystone School - Grand Terrace has adopted and purchase K-12 curriculum aligned with the state framework and Colton Unified School District. In addition UHS Keystone School - Grand Terrace is Williams compliant in all academic core areas and facility requirements.
We are focus and dedicated to improve the basic reading level, fluency and comprehension level of each student. We are dedicated to improving student achievement and overall performance by providing reading invention using a research based program. Students participate in daily Direct Instruction lesson using the SRA Reading REACH and Reading Mastery program. Instruction is supported and enrich with the use of Orchard software. Orchard software is a supplemental program that supports and is aligned with the Direct Instruction skills sets and materials.
